Alexandria, Va. – The Prevent Cancer Foundation this week recognizes the start of Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Month, a collaborative effort spearheaded by the Prevent Cancer Foundation and supported by nearly 80 organizations. It’s the beginning of a month-long focus from advocates, partners, health care professionals and organizations to raise awareness, inspire action, mobilize resources and highlight progress in cancer prevention and early detection.

On Wednesday, April 8, the Prevent Cancer Foundation will release results from the Foundation’s 2026 Early Detection Survey. This annual survey highlights routine screening behaviors of U.S. adults and will shine a spotlight on what’s keeping people from the doctor’s office and what we can do to change that.

The 2025 Early Detection Survey previously revealed that when people learn about the benefits of early detection, 73% are more likely to schedule their routine cancer screenings. By spreading the word about this message, we hope to motivate people to schedule their routine cancer screenings and medical appointments.

“Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Month is an opportunity for people to take charge of their health,” said Jody Hoyos, CEO of the Prevent Cancer Foundation. “While we could say that every month is Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Month at the Foundation, we’re excited to spend this month working with our partners, advocates and the public to save lives through cancer prevention and early detection. Our whole team is inspired by those who join us to support screening and risk reduction and champion better health outcomes for all.”

On Friday, April 10,  you can join the Foundation and its partners and “Get Your Green On”  by wearing green to raise awareness of cancer prevention and early detection. Any shade counts, and you can share on social media with the hashtag #GetYourGreenOn. The Foundation will also host a fundraising initiative on this day to inspire everyone to unlock a world beyond cancer. Mark your calendars and support the Foundation’s research, education, outreach and advocacy work.

The Foundation encourages everyone to join us in raising awareness throughout the month. Check out the Foundation’s partner toolkit and download assets to amplify cancer prevention and early detection messaging.

About the Prevent Cancer Foundation®

The Prevent Cancer Foundation® is the only U.S.-based nonprofit organization solely dedicated to cancer prevention and early detection. Through research, education, outreach and advocacy, we have helped countless people avoid a cancer diagnosis or detect their cancer early enough to be successfully treated. We are driven by a vision of a world where cancer is preventable, detectable and beatable for all.

The Foundation is rising to meet the challenge of reducing cancer deaths by 40% by 2035. To achieve this, we are committed to investing $20 million for innovative technologies to detect cancer early and advance multi-cancer screening, $10 million to expand cancer screening and vaccination access to medically underserved communities, and $10 million to educate the public about screening and vaccination options.
