Rockville, Md. — For 160 hours, gamers from around the world participated in Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ), a speedrunning gaming marathon to benefit the Prevent Cancer Foundation®. The event, which took place January 6-13, raised a whopping $2.4 million for the Foundation, the most in its nine-year history.

This year’s event featured 150 speedrunners, with thousands of people attending to watch in person and hundreds of thousands live-streaming the games online through Twitch. Speedrunning is a gaming technique in which players attempt to beat a game as quickly as possible, which requires a high level of skill, planning and precision.

The gaming community showed their support by donating to the Prevent Cancer Foundation® throughout the week. As the donation tally crossed the $2 million mark in the late hours on Saturday night, the crowd erupted into cheers, celebrating this important milestone.

In its nine years supporting the Prevent Cancer Foundation®, AGDQ has raised more than $11.3 million to fund research, technology and community grants both in the U.S. and internationally, as well as cancer prevention and early detection education and outreach.

“We are so grateful to Games Done Quick and the entire gaming community, especially all of the people who participated and donated during AGDQ this year,” said Carolyn Aldigé, Founder and CEO of the Prevent Cancer Foundation®. “We have seen a passion from this group to use gaming for good, and the results are remarkable. With their support, the Foundation is able to fund cancer prevention and early detection work that saves lives.”
