Washington, D.C. – Marking 40 years since its inception, the Prevent Cancer Foundation welcomed nearly 800 guests in attendance at its Annual Gala, held at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, September 18.

This year’s Gala spotlighted the groundbreaking innovations and inspiring work happening in cancer prevention and early detection across the United States. With decor designed by celebrations expert and Foundation board member 大卫·图特拉 for the 24th consecutive year, the Gala provided an opportunity to celebrate the institutions and communities making progress possible.

Members of Congress and Hill staffers were present from 40 different states, a powerful reflection of this year’s theme, The United States: Innovation and Inspiration. Their presence underscored a shared commitment to advancing cancer prevention and early detection efforts—bringing together science, policy and community to drive lasting change.

Proceeds from the Gala support the Foundation’s programs, including research grants and fellowships and community grants. Funds will also support the Foundation’s public education campaigns, including “Early Detection = Better Outcomes,” to educate U.S. adults on the routine cancer screenings they need and encourage them to schedule appointments.

Other highlights of the evening included cancer survivor and CNN’s Senior National Correspondent Sara Sidner serving as emcee and touching remarks from the Prevent Cancer Foundation’s CEO, Jody Hoyos.

“Our reach extends across the country—from our community partners in small towns and big cities, to our brilliant researchers looking for the next big breakthrough,” Ms. Hoyos said in her opening remarks. “We are here tonight to ensure all our partners have the resources to do their important work and researchers can continue to find new and innovative ways to prevent cancer or detect it early for better outcomes.”

The Foundation’s impact extends far beyond the Gala. This year’s event kicked off with a brand-new video from the Foundation, spotlighting the voices of Foundation researchers, community partners and supporters. Together, they are advancing research, education, outreach and advocacy to build a future where cancer is preventable, detectable and beatable for all. In addition to Foundation CEO Jody Hoyos, the video features Christina Bauer, Director of Development at Health Care for the Homeless, a former Prevent Cancer Foundation community grantee; Dr. Karen Sfanos, a former Prevent Cancer Foundation research grantee; and Aisha Khan, a breast cancer survivor.

Two members of Congress were recognized by the Foundation for their significant contributions to cancer prevention, early detection and other cancer-related issues. Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick (Pa.) and Robin Kelly (Ill.) were in attendance and honored as this year’s Cancer Champions during the program to recognize their significant contributions and longstanding support of legislation for cancer research, prevention, detection and treatment.
