2026 Prevent Cancer Advocacy Workshop
Building Trust: Moving Patients from Skepticism to Screening
Trust in the U.S. health care system is a critical driver of whether individuals seek care, follow screening recommendations and feel confident navigating complex medical decisions. When trust falters, prevention and early detection suffer—contributing to missed opportunities to detect cancer earlier, when it is most treatable.
This year’s Advocacy Workshop explores the role of trust and mistrust in shaping health behaviors and outcomes. Grounded in findings from the Prevent Cancer Foundation’s 2026 Early Detection survey, the session highlights how patients perceive the health care system and where gaps in confidence persist.
Featuring perspectives from community health leaders and a patient advocate with lived experience, the discussion centers on key themes such as transparency, consistency, responsiveness and the importance of listening. The workshop also examines how community-centered approaches can strengthen trust and support access to preventive services.
By fostering a thoughtful, nonpartisan dialogue, this workshop aims to deepen understanding of how trust is built, why it breaks down and how it can be strengthened to support equitable access to cancer prevention and early detection.
