Alexandria, Va. – The Prevent Cancer Foundation this week recognizes the start of Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Month. Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Month is a collaborative effort spearheaded by the Prevent Cancer Foundation and supported by more than 80 organizations. Every April, the Foundation rallies individuals, organizations and patient advocacy organizations to promote routine cancer screenings for better health outcomes.

On April 3, 2025, the White House issued a presidential proclamation for April 2025 as Cancer Control Month. (“Cancer control” is a medical term to describe efforts to reduce the number of people who are diagnosed with and die from cancer.) We are grateful to all our partners who support efforts for cancer prevention and early detection and collectively contribute to a world where cancer is preventable, detectable and beatable for all.

“We are excited to dedicate the month of April to raising awareness about the importance of risk reduction and early detection in achieving better health outcomes,” said Jody Hoyos, CEO of the Prevent Cancer Foundation. “Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Month is an opportunity to empower the public to take charge of their health. I’m continually inspired by everyone who has come together to support this initiative because they, too, believe in better health outcomes for all.”

During the month of April, the Foundation is leading efforts to encourage advocates, partners, health care professional and organizations to raise awareness, inspire action, mobilize resources and highlight progress in cancer prevention and early detection:

  • On Tuesday, April 8, the Prevent Cancer Foundation will release results from the Foundation’s 2025 Early Detection Survey. This annual survey highlights routine screening behaviors of U.S. adults. The 2024 Early Detection Survey previously revealed that nearly seven in 10 U.S. adults were behind on at least one routine cancer screening.
  • On Friday, April 11, the Foundation will host a Day of Action, a chance for everyone to raise awareness by wearing green and sharing on social media with #GetYourGreenOn. Prevent Cancer’s Day of Action also includes a fundraising initiative to inspire 100 donors to support the Foundation’s research, education, outreach and advocacy work.
  • Throughout the month, people are also encouraged to participate in the United States of Earl social media campaign featuring Earl E. Bird, the Foundation’s cheery mascot who represents being proactive about your health. United States of Earl is a way to share information about cancer prevention and early detection guidelines, increase screening rates and save lives.

The Foundation encourages individuals and communities to join in raising awareness throughout April. See the Foundation’s partner toolkit to amplify cancer prevention and early detection messaging in April. Visit preventcancer.org/april 了解更多信息并参与其中。
