Washington, D.C. – The Prevent Cancer Foundation’s Congressional Families® Program held its 32nd Annual Action for Cancer Awareness Awards luncheon on Wednesday, September 10 on Capitol Hill. The bipartisan group honored actress and breast cancer advocate Olivia Munn with the Excellence in Cancer Awareness Award, congressional spouses Wayne Kye, DDS, M.S., (married to Representative Grace Meng, New York) and Marcia S. Latta, Ed.D., (married to Representative Bob Latta, Ohio) with the جائزة القيادة لعائلات الكونجرس, and Whole Family Health Center with the Community Impact Award.

The Congressional Families Program’s signature event is widely attended by members of Congress and their spouses, as well as leaders in the cancer prevention community and Program supporters, to recognize the contributions of those using their platforms to educate the public about cancer prevention and early detection. The theme of this year’s event was “Shining a Light on Prevention.”

ليزا ماكغفرن, executive director of the Congressional Families Program, served as emcee. “Our honorees have demonstrated exceptional dedication in leveraging their platforms to shine a light on the critical importance of early cancer detection,” said Ms. McGovern. “We are proud to recognize their leadership and commitment to advancing our shared mission of cancer prevention and early detection.”

More about the 2025 honorees:

Olivia Munn, Actress and Advocate

Excellence in Cancer Awareness Award

Olivia Munn is an actor, activist and mother who was recently named to TIME’s 2025 Women of the Year and TIME’s 2024 100 Most Influential People in Health. She currently stars in the hit new Apple TV+ drama series Your Friends & Neighbors opposite Jon Hamm. In March 2024, Ms. Munn shared on social media the story of her ongoing battle with breast cancer, urging women to take a breast cancer risk assessment test to learn about their personal risk and help detect cancer earlier. Her story was read and shared by a global audience and led to countless women being proactive about breast cancer detection. The National Cancer Institute said that Ms. Munn’s outreach “led to a surge in visits to the Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Tool site” and the rate of women taking this formerly little-known test increased 4000%.

Wayne Kye, DDS, Master of Science in Oral Biology (married to Representative Grace Meng, New York)

جائزة القيادة لعائلات الكونجرس

Since joining the Congressional Families Program Executive Council in 2018, Dr. Wayne Kye has been a dedicated and influential advocate for cancer prevention and early detection. As a heath professional and congressional spouse, he has leveraged his platform to raise awareness through op-eds on a variety of cancer prevention topics frequently published in The Queens Time, Queens Chronicle and QNS.com. He also participates in the Program’s “Posting with a Purpose” initiative, sharing social media posts on various early detection and prevention topics. A board-certified periodontist, Dr. Kye brought his expertise to the forefront in the “Congressional Families: Voices for Cancer Prevention” video series, where he addressed the critical importance of oral cancer exams. His leadership and commitment bring vital information to New Yorkers and beyond, inspiring the public to take steps to stop cancer.

Marcia S. Latta, Ed.D. (married to Representative Bob Latta, Ohio)

جائزة القيادة لعائلات الكونجرس

A member of the Congressional Families Program Executive Council and dedicated advocate involved in the Program since 2012, Dr. Marcia Latta brings a personal passion to the fight against cancer. She has been deeply affected by these diseases—losing a close friend to breast cancer and witnessing her father’s battle with melanoma, diagnosed at age 70 after a lifetime of working under the sun as a farmer. His early diagnosis and multiple surgeries reshaped Dr. Latta’s perspective on sun safety and cancer prevention, a message she shares with constituents. Motivated by these personal experiences, Dr. Latta has become a powerful voice for cancer awareness and education, leveraging her platform to inform and inspire others through compelling op-eds, impactful social media outreach and public service announcements for skin cancer prevention.

About the Congressional Families® Program

The Congressional Families® Program is a bipartisan, non-political initiative founded in 1991 to increase the public’s understanding of cancer prevention and early detection through education and outreach. Members of Congress and their spouses/partners are supported in using their unique platforms to raise awareness, highlight resources and inspire action in their home districts and states through site visits, op-eds and social media content, building a nonpartisan community focused on stopping cancer.

When the Congressional Families Program launched as a partnership between the Prevent Cancer Foundation and The Congressional Club, initial efforts focused on breast cancer. The success of the Program’s first five years led to the expansion of its scope to include colorectal, liver, lung, oral, prostate, skin, testicular and cervical cancers, as well as HPV-related cancers.
