Alexandria, Va. – The Prevent Cancer Foundation® has been made aware of two recent scams in York County, Pennsylvania, and Kewanee, Illinois, where individuals are fraudulently posing as representatives of our organization. The Prevent Cancer Foundation is not involved with either of these events or any effort to ask you to purchase gift cards. We want to be clear: The Foundation will never send you a check and ask you to purchase gift cards on our behalf.

We are grateful to the York County and Kewanee police departments for their work identifying this fraudulent behavior and warning the public about these activities. With giving season kicking off this week, we encourage everyone to remain vigilant and verify charitable organizations before donating:

  • Verify before you give: Always confirm that you are donating through official channels. Visit preventcancer.org to learn more about our mission and make secure contributions.
  • Watch for red flags: Requests for gift cards, personal financial information or unusual payment methods are signs of a scam.
  • Report suspicious activity: If you receive a questionable solicitation, contact your local law enforcement and report it to the Federal Trade Commission at reportfraud.ftc.gov.

Your support helps us continue our work to prevent cancer and save lives. Thank you for staying alert and helping us protect the integrity of charitable giving.
