Alexandria, Va. – In the early hours of Sunday morning, January 11, the speedrunning community achieved a monumental feat—a fundraising total of more than $2.4 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation® at the conclusion of Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ).
Organized by Games Done Quick, AGDQ convenes all-star gamers from around the world to speedrun—play as fast as possible—their favorite games during a week-long, livestreamed video game marathon. In addition to gamers gathered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, tens of thousands tuned in from across the U.S. and around the world to watch the “best of the best” take on their favorite games. All games were played live beginning on January 4 until the event’s late-night conclusion on January 11.
As viewers tuned in to the official Games Done Quick Twitch and YouTube streams, the gaming community showed their support for cancer prevention and early detection with more than 34,000 donations to the Prevent Cancer Foundation throughout the week.
Games played this year ranged from fan-favorite classics such as Super Metroid and Pokémon Emerald, newer releases like Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Silent Hill f, and, in a GDQ first, a 70-player Super Mario 64 relay.
Another highlight of this year’s event included the return of a week-long “wellness quest” hosted by the Foundation. Throughout the week, participants completed different wellness challenges promoting healthy behaviors and lifestyle choices.
2026 marks 15 years of partnership between the Prevent Cancer Foundation and Games Done Quick, who has now raised nearly $30 million for the Foundation. AGDQ dollars have enabled the funding of new research, innovative technologies, cancer prevention and early detection education and outreach, and community grants—both in the U.S. and abroad.
“Year after year, Awesome Games Done Quick plays a major role in enabling progress across cancer prevention and early detection education, research, resources and more,” said Jody Hoyos, CEO of the Prevent Cancer Foundation. “Prevention and early detection efforts are chronically underfunded, so their commitment could not be more important—or more appreciated.”
