ዋሽንግተን ዲሲ – የካንሰር ፋውንዴሽን ኮንግረስ ቤተሰቦችን መከላከል® Program will host a reception on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, in recognition of Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Month. This invitation-only event will take place in the Cannon House Office Building in Washington, D.C, bringing together a distinguished bipartisan audience of members of Congress and their spouses, as well as leaders from the cancer prevention community across the United States.

The event takes place following the news of the passing of Molly McGovern, daughter of Lisa McGovern, Executive Director of the Prevent Cancer Foundation’s Congressional Families Program, and Rep. Jim McGovern (Mass.).

“Our hearts remain with Lisa, Jim, their son Patrick and all those who knew and loved Molly, who faced her battle with grace, humor and optimism,” said ጆዲ ሆዮስየካንሰር መከላከል ፋውንዴሽን ዋና ሥራ አስፈፃሚ®. “Our work towards a world where cancer is preventable, detectable and beatable for all is for everyone who has been touched by this disease, and we stand committed to ensuring no family must endure this type of tragedy.”

The event will also recognize the MIT Media Lab, being presented with the Carolyn “Bo” Aldigé Visionary Award for its groundbreaking research in advancing women’s health. The award, given annually since 2023, was named in honor of the Prevent Cancer Foundation’s founder. The Media Lab’s women’s health program, WHx, takes an interdisciplinary approach, combining artificial intelligence, wearable technology and biomedical research to revolutionize how we understand and address women’s health issues. Dr. Heather Obernolte, spouse of Rep. Jay Obernolte (Calif.), will present the award to Dr. Dava Newman, Director of the MIT Media Lab, for her leadership in this innovative field. The evening will also include remarks from Ms. Hoyos and ካሲ ስሚዝ, Senior Manager of Congressional Families and Education Marketing at the Prevent Cancer Foundation.

“We are honored to recognize the MIT Media Lab for its transformative contributions to cancer prevention and early detection,” said Ms. Smith. “Through its innovative research, the Media Lab has consistently pushed the boundaries of art, science, engineering and design to develop solutions that enhance wellbeing worldwide. Their dedication is a testament to the profound impact of innovation in the fight against cancer. We are excited to celebrate their work, which inspires hope and drives progress in this field.”

The Prevent Cancer Foundation recognizes April as የካንሰር መከላከያ እና የቅድመ ማወቂያ ወር. Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Month is a collaborative effort spearheaded by the Prevent Cancer Foundation and supported by more than 80 organizations. ስለ ኮንግረስ ቤተሰቦች® ፕሮግራም

The Congressional Families® Program is a bipartisan initiative to increase the public’s understanding of cancer prevention and early detection. Led by congressional spouses, families of Senate, House, Cabinet and Supreme Court members are invited to work within their respective constituencies—and nationwide—to raise awareness and reduce risk for these diseases.

When the Congressional Families Program launched in 1991 as a partnership between the Prevent Cancer Foundation and The Congressional Club, initial efforts focused on breast cancer. The Program’s first five years’ success led to the expansion of its scope to include colorectal, liver, lung, oral, prostate, skin, testicular and cervical cancers, and HPV-related cancers. The Program offers participants educational seminars, talking points, op-eds, letters to the editor, speeches, videos, program ideas and many more tools to use in their districts and beyond. With these tools, the Congressional Families Program takes the message of cancer prevention and early detection into communities across the U.S.
