Today, those equal opportunities are too often denied in the U.S. and around the world, where systems of oppression disproportionately impact people based on the color of their skin, level of education, gender identity, sexual orientation, occupation, the neighborhood they live in and whether they have a disability. Detecting cancer early can increase treatment options and improve chances of survival. Cancer screening rates are lower in people with inadequate access to health care services due to financial, geographical and logistical barriers including (but not limited to) racial and ethnic minority groups, residents of rural areas and the LGBTQ+ community.
