Honoring Puerto Rico’s role in progress against cancer
This post has been sponsored by Amgen as part of its sponsorship of the 2026 Prevent Cancer Gala.
Preventing and fighting cancer requires a collective and coordinated effort across the health care spectrum, including through research, advocacy and policy engagement. As the presenting sponsor of the 2026 Prevent Cancer Foundation Gala, Amgen was proud to support an evening that celebrated progress, brought together committed partners and spotlighted Puerto Rico, an island with a deep connection to the Foundation’s vision of a world where cancer is preventable, detectable and beatable for all.
Not only did the Gala raise more than $2 million in support of the Foundation’s programs, but the evening also offered a powerful reminder of what sits at the heart of this effort. Behind every breakthrough, screening initiative and policy milestone is a person and a family hoping for more time, better options and a healthier future.
Puerto Rico’s legacy of innovation
Puerto Rico has been home to extraordinary talent, unprecedented ingenuity and world-class biopharmaceutical manufacturing. For Amgen, Puerto Rico has been an important part of our story for decades. Established in 1992, our Juncos site has grown to become one of the largest and most advanced biomanufacturing facilities in the world, producing biologics, which are made using living cells, that reach patients in more than 60 countries.
Our confidence in Puerto Rico and its continued importance to serving patients is reflected in our investment on the island. Within the past year, Amgen has announced approximately $2 billion in U.S. manufacturing and research investments, including nearly $1 billion planned directly for Puerto Rico to expand biologics manufacturing capacity and advance next-generation technologies. These investments are intended to increase production capacity and support a reliable supply of medicines for patients.
Yet, this story isn’t about buildings or equipment. It’s about patients.
The power of prevention
Serving patients has guided Amgen’s work in oncology for decades, as we continue to pursue new treatment options for people facing cancer.
But medicines are only part of the answer. Prevention, screening, early detection and continued therapeutic innovation all play a vital role in reducing the burden of cancer and saving lives.
That is why organizations like the Prevent Cancer Foundation are so important. Through public education, community partnerships and direct advocacy, the Foundation’s programs empower people to take steps to reduce their cancer risk and detect cancer earlier. Amgen congratulates House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (La.) and Representative Richard Neal (Mass.) on their recognition by the Foundation at the Gala for their efforts in support of the Foundation’s mission to expand patient access to screenings and treatments.
Carrying the work forward
This year’s successful Gala is a meaningful achievement. Its lasting value, though, lies in what comes next: partnerships strengthened, awareness raised and the collective efforts that continue after the evening ends. We can carry that momentum forward by championing prevention, supporting access to vital screenings and continuing to pursue better options for people impacted by cancer.
Because behind every breakthrough is a patient counting on us.
