This year’s Prevent Cancer Foundation 5K is a family and pet-friendly event that welcomes people of all abilities, ages, shapes, sizes, and localities – you do not even have to be present on event day to participate! The Foundation has a unique opportunity to engage people nationwide to get involved in cancer prevention efforts right in their own community through participation in a “virtual team.” The only thing that everyone involved with the Prevent Cancer Foundation 5K has to have in common is the desire to stop cancer before it starts.
People from across the country will be walking, running, strolling, wheeling and biking for cancer prevention and early detection research, education and community outreach. So far, nine teams have committed to raising vital cancer prevention funds. One “virtual team.” is taking the idea of virtual participation to the next level. With a team goal of $10,000, the “One Gear Boys,” Zachary Rosenthal and Dallas Plikuhn, are embarking on a cycling journey from Brooklyn, NY on August 1 to Seaside, Oregon. The duo project the trip will take them between 8-10 weeks. Now that’s dedication to saving lives! To follow the progress of the Prevent Cancer Foundation 5K’s NEW YORK CITY to OREGON: ONE GEAR Team check out their website.
There are so many ways to show your support of cancer prevention efforts! What will you do to help prevent cancer? Will you join or form a regular or virtual team? Donate? Volunteer? Will you participate because of your own cancer battle or for someone close to you that has been touched by cancer? We would love to hear from you so please share your thoughts, stories and comments with us. Together we can and will stop cancer before it starts!
Visit the Prevent Cancer Foundation 5K site for more information, to join or form a team, to register as an individual participant, to donate or to register as a volunteer.
