State Fairs

StateFairWhat comes to mind when you think of state fairs? Blue ribbon competitions, carnival rides, food…and how about being entertained by rodeo clowns and bands? It’s time to add another association to that list: health education and screening. Beginning in Kansas in 1993, the Foundation partnered with Senator Bob Dole and the Hutchinson Clinic to start the first screening and education booth at a state fair. Since then, the Foundation has continued to collaborate with medical and Congressional partners in several states.

Honorary Congressional co-chairs of the state fair screening booths share an interest with the Foundation in reaching rural populations with messages of cancer prevention, screening and risk reduction. They work to promote the health screening booths through local media and have a role in developing community partnerships and information delivered by the state fair screening booths. Their support of the booths through lending their efforts as Honorary co-chairs helps attract both visitors to the booth seeking information as well as local media that further promotes the topic of disease prevention beyond the physical space of the screening booth.

Reach Statistics in 2014

  • 24,669 Visitors to the Screening and Education Booths
