“This morning, President Obama’s signature on an Executive Order overturning the current restrictions on Federal funding of embryonic stem cell research ushered in a promising new direction in cancer research. The Prevent Cancer Foundation applauds the President for his action and commitment.
“This order means that we can move closer to discovering more about cancer and other debilitating diseases, hopefully leading to better prevention, treatment and cures. The Prevent Cancer Foundation,along with health advocates representing many disease groups, have worked tirelessly in raising awareness for this important issue over the past eight years. By signing an Executive Order that calls for funding and appropriate ethical oversight for embryonic stem cell research, President Obama has ensured that Americans are no longer forced to look back,but can instead look forward to one day seeing the promise of scientific and medical research fulfilled.
“The Executive Order was accompanied by a presidential memorandum on Scientific Integrity which will direct the Office of Science and Technology Policy to assure effective standards and practices for research, to restore scientific integrity in decisions made by the government with respect to research and help guide policy by accurate scientific information.
“The Prevent Cancer Foundation is a longstanding member of the Board of Directors of the Coalition for the Advancement of Medical Research (CAMR). Prevent Cancer staff also serves in the Leadership Group of CAMR, as Vice President for Membership of the Coalition.”
