Good Stuff for a Good Cause: Top Chef Spike Mendelsohn Helps Benefit 5K Run/Walk Through Turkey Burger Sales

ALEXANDRIA, VA — In honor of the inaugural Step Away from Cancer 5K Run/Walk,Good Stuff Eatery owner and Top Chef Spike Mendelsohn will donate a dollar from every turkey burger at Good Stuff Eatery between Saturday, September 5 through Friday, September 11 to the Prevent Cancer Foundation. Spike and the Good Stuff team wanted to be involved as a way to honor the memory of his late grandfather who passed away from lung cancer. They will also participate in 5K run/walk on September 26.

“The Step Away from Cancer 5K run/walk is a great way for people to actively take steps to prevent cancer,” explains Spike, owner and chef of Good Stuff Eatery. “We are thrilled to have one dollar of every Free Range Turkey Burger sold during Labor Day week going towards this meaningful cause. This is a great way to support the Foundation’s inaugural race and help honor the memory of my grandfather.”

The Step Away From Cancer 5K aims to encourage the public to take their own steps to prevent cancer, through regular screenings and leading a healthy lifestyle. Proceeds from theStep Away From Cancer 5K and will help support the Foundation’s important cancer prevention research, education and community outreach programs nationwide.

“We are so excited to have celebrity chef, Spike, join us in our inaugural 5K walk/run,” explains Carolyn Aldigé, President and Founder of the Prevent Cancer Foundation. “This partnership shows how local businesses care about cancer prevention and healthy living. Together, we can all take steps away from cancer.”

The race sponsors include: PhRMA, GEICO®, the NACDS Foundation, Millennium Pharmaceuticals and Price Waterhouse Coopers. Good Stuff Eatery is a Step Away from Cancer 5K race partner along with Sport&Health, Georgetown Running Company, Reston Limousine, Subway® and D.C. United.

Individual registration by Friday, August 14 is $25 for the 5K run/walk, and $30 after August 14; children under 12 years of age are free. All registrants will receive a commemorative t-shirt. Transponder timing operated by Capital Running Company will be used to score the 5K. Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers. Awards will be also given to the top three finishers in the men and women’s 10 year age groups as follows: 19 and under, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70 and over.
