#GivingTuesday: Changing the world at the click of a mouse

Some say that we are living in an age without dinner conversation. Teenagers and twenty-somethings snapchat, tweet and text at the table and our Twitter feeds function as newspapers. Social media is everywhere, decreasing in-person human interactions and increasing “screen time.” What’s hunched over, red-eyed and always staring at its iPhone? Someone living in the age of social media.

But these technological tools can be used for good. #GivingTuesday, a movement taking place on December 3 (right after Black Friday and Cyber Monday), is all about using your savings and social media accounts to make the world a better place. The Prevent Cancer Foundation is starting an innovative social media campaign over the next month in honor of #GivingTuesday.

The word “cancer” inflicts fear and pain in millions of Americans every day. In 2013 alone, more than 1.6 million people will be diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. More than 580,000 people will die from the disease. The Foundation is committed to preventing cancer or detecting it early and protecting your loved ones through research, education, community outreach and advocacy. We’ve been fighting this fight since 1985. Your voices and stories are what we keep us going. Donate on December 3 and help us Stop Cancer Before It Starts!

“What can I do?” you ask. Buy one less pair of shoes on Black Friday. Buy the less expensive headphones on Cyber Monday. Over the next month, we’ll tweet, Facebook and pin eight dozen reasons why your money is better spent in our hands. We’re here for you and we’re going to prove it. Head on over to our social media channels and join the conversation – we’re listening.

Stayed tuned for more information about #GivingTuesday!
