Breakaway Day 5: Winners in Bakersfield

Lisa and I had a little free time yesterday morning, and saw our opportunity to jump on the winners podium!  As we follow the Breakaway from Cancer Tour, we see lots of winners.

There are lots of winners everywhere. These winners are the lifestyle winners, the people who find information on cancer prevention and general health and use it to change deleterious habits into healthful ones in order that they may take consistent good care of themselves – and their families.

Enthusiastic Bakersfield

Stage 5 in Bakersfield was the third Breakaway Mile city.  An enthusiastic crowd of survivors and supporters turned out! Our Breakaway Champion from Bakersfield is Tricia Bland, an 18-year breast cancer survivor. She was lucky enough to detect her cancer early and she uses her role as a nutritionist and personal trainer to help educate the community on the importance of exercising and eating healthfully – two important factors in cancer prevention. We salute Tricia and all of our Breakaway Mile participants.
