By empowering local community leaders, the Prevent Cancer Foundation® implements lifesaving cancer prevention and early detection programs within diverse populations.

Cancer prevention and early detection outreach to all populations is an important part of the mission of the Prevent Cancer Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit. For many years, the Foundation has been active in the community through its outreach programs promoting prevention and early detection. These outreach efforts include:

¡Celebremos la vida!

Started in 1994, Celebremos is a breast and cervical cancer education and early detection program for medically underserved women in the Hispanic community.

Campeonas Breast Health Outreach

A new addition to the Celebremos program is Campeonas contra el cáncer de seno (“Champions against Breast Cancer”), a culturally appropriate educational outreach project developed in 2012 by a bilingual, bicultural team in the Washington DC area. The project trains Latina women over 40 who have had a recent mammogram to “start a conversation” with their friends and family about the importance of breast cancer screening. The training uses role play and other interactive exercises to engage the Campeonas!
