Alexandria, Va. – The Prevent Cancer Foundation® today is visiting McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation, recipient of a $25,000 grant from the Foundation to provide lung cancer prevention education and screening services.
McLaren Northern Michigan will provide lung cancer screenings for 400 patients and education about lung cancer prevention for 1,350 community members across 22 rural counties of Michigan. The program expects a 33 percent increase in lung cancer screenings for high-risk patients and a 50 percent enrollment increase in smoking cessation programs. The program will use grant funds to increase knowledge about lung cancer screening services and address financial barriers for eligible patients.
Lisa McGovern, Executive Director of the Foundation’s Congressional Families Cancer Prevention Program, is representing the Prevent Cancer Foundation®. She is joined by congressional spouses Colleen Ochoa Peters (spouse of Sen. Gary Peters) and Cindy Bergman (spouse of Rep. Jack Bergman).

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death for both men and women, and smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer.
