A study found that young women at risk of developing hereditary breast or ovarian cancer are often uninformed about how to best protect themselves. Although many women reported being aware of and concerned about the issue, they often displayed a limited understanding of the genetics behind hereditary cancer. Counseling can help women realize the screening and prevention methods available to them to manage and reduce their risk.
