FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
January 20, 2011

(Alexandria, VA)—On January 10, the Prevent Cancer Foundation awarded $85,000 in grants to nine organizations located in communities across the country in support of cancer prevention initiatives. Through the 2011 Community Grants program, two grantees received $25,000 one-year grants and seven groups were awarded $5,000 grants. From free skin cancer screenings to an educational musical revue, a diverse range of programs and projects are represented that are unique not only in their promotion of preventive measures and education, but also in their emphasis on overall wellness in a culturally relevant way.

“The Prevent Cancer Foundation is committed to supporting community organizations that reach those most in need of life-saving cancer prevention and early detection education and screening services,” says Carolyn R. Aldigé, President and Founder of the Prevent Cancer Foundation. “Targeting underserved populations at the grassroots level is one of the cornerstones of the Foundation’s mission.”

Launched in 2006, the Community Grants program is currently funding its third cycle of grants. Thirty-two organizations from around the country applied for the awards, and the grantees were chosen through a panel review process.
