It’s Men’s Health Month

Today kicks off Men’s Health Month, a national event to raise awareness for the preventive men’s health problems. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cancer is the #2 cause of death for men in the United States. Research has proven that more than half of cancer deaths can be prevented. Aside from our Seven Steps to Prevent Cancer, here are some health tips men tend to ignore.

Take ownership of your lifestyle today to reduce your risk for cancer and many other life-threatening diseases.

Get Some Sleep
Men should get at least seven to eight hours of sleep per night. Sleep deprivation intensifies stress, impedes the brain from functioning properly and increases junk food cravings.

Drink Green Tea
Green tea can improve memory and cognition in men. It also fires up metabolism, lowers blood pressure and boosts immunity.

Warm Up Before Working Out
Take ten minutes and do a dynamic (non-stationary) warm up to get more out of your workout. Research shows it enhances your performance and prevents injury.

Eat Something Green at Every Meal
Don’t cheat your body out of essential nutrients. Dark, leafy greens are antioxidant-packed making them a great cancer-preventing food.

Eat Whole Grains
Most men eat enough carbs but get them from the wrong sources. A diet rich in whole grains provides fiber, vitamins and minerals to improve heart health, help build muscles and keep waistlines small. Switch to whole grain pasta or try quinoa. Quinoa contains zinc and lutein which are essential for prostate health.

A healthy diet and regular exercise can help reduce your risk for the leading cancers in men including prostate and colorectal cancer. Take this week to learn about the ways you can reduce your risk for deadly diseases to create healthy lifelong habits.
