2011 Prevent Cancer Foundation 5K
Taking Steps, Saving Lives™
Over 400 people and 25 pets attended the third annual Prevent Cancer Foundation 5K: Taking Steps, Saving Lives to support the Foundation’s mission to Stop Cancer Before it Starts. The event, which was held on September 24, 2011 at West Potomac Park in Washington, DC, raised over $92,000, thanks to sponsors, participants, and donors.
The morning began bright and early with greetings from Jan Bresch, the Prevent Cancer Foundation’s Executive Vice President and COO who introduced Chilli Amar, radio personality from MIX 107.3. Chilli welcomed everyone and emceed the morning’s event. Following a brief warm-up, over 400 men, women, children, and dogs gathered at the starting line, eager to take their first steps to fight cancer.
The fun didn’t stop when participants crossed the finish line! After the race, participants were able to enjoy a selection of food, fruit and snacks, including sandwiches and cookies and beverages donated by Subway, and vitaminwater® and smartwater®. While awaiting the awards ceremony, many participants received post-race exercise advice from Embody Pure Fitness staff members, or visited a face-painting station, where Melissa Cutler from Ultimate Amusements airbrushed temporary tattoos on adults and children alike.
Gift certificates were presented to the top Individual and Team Fundraisers. The top three individuals were Katherine Kennedy, Don Hutchins, and Allison Hutchins, while the top three teams were KK’s Cancer Kickers, Cancer Conquerors, and Carlucci Crusaders.
