STEP AWAY FROM CANCER™

The second annual Prevent Cancer Foundation 5K: Step Away From Cancer was held at West Potomac Park in Washington, DC on Saturday, September 25, 2010.  Approximately 300 runners/walkers registered to participate, and helped raise nearly $50,000 in support of cancer prevention research, education and community outreach.

Denise Austin was the 5K “Honorary 5K Chair” and instructors from our Fitness Partner, Sport & Health “warmed-up” the runners to lively tunes presented by DJ, Jim Templin.  Ivan Carter, host of Comcast Sports Net’s “Washington Post Live” attended and also participated.  Ivan had recently spoken at a charity luncheon, at which time he mentioned the importance of his mother’s early breast cancer detection.

Random drawing prizes were distributed during the awards ceremony graciously MC’d by WUSA television personality Andrea Roane.  Gift certificates donated by Georgetown Running Company were presented to the overall fastest time-both male and female in the following amounts:

  • 1st/$100
  • 2nd/$75
  • 3rd/$50

And the fastest times (1st place) in each age category (male and female) each received a $25 gift certificate.
