The Prevent Cancer Foundation® partners with Health Wagon of Wise, Virginia, to bring information about cancer prevention and early detection to underserved people of Appalachia.
Alexandria, VA – Each year, the Rural Area Medical (RAM) event in Wise, Virginia, sees thousands of underserved people who live in Appalachia for their health care needs. Again this year, visitors to the event on July 21 and 22 will walk away with important information about cancer prevention and early detection from the Prevent Cancer Foundation®, in partnership with Health Wagon.
The Foundation will exhibit the Prevent Cancer Super Colon®, an interactive education tool that carries the message colorectal cancer is preventable, treatable and beatable! This walk-through inflatable colon gives visitors a close-up look at healthy colon tissue, tissue with non-malignant colorectal disease (like Crohn’s and colitis), colorectal polyps and various stages of colorectal cancer. Thousands walk through the Prevent Cancer Super Colon® in communities across the country each year, and they leave with information on screening options for colorectal cancer to prevent the disease or detect it early, when successful treatment is more likely.
The Foundation is committed to tackling health disparities to advance its mission: saving lives across all populations through cancer prevention and early detection. Most of the visitors to the RAM event do not have regular access to medical care. In fact, Appalachia is one of the most economically distressed region of the United States, and thousands of visitors rely on this no-cost clinic for all of their health care needs.

While it is unfortunate to see so many folks in need of medical care, the Prevent Cancer Foundation and other organizations joining the doctors, dentists, nurses and medical students are making a difference in patient lives and are to be commended. The spirit of this event is a true reflection of American compassion and service.”
