ALEXANDRIA, VA – World Series of Poker contenders John Racener and Soi Nguyen were not bluffing when they pledged to donate a portion of their winnings to the Prevent Cancer Foundation’s Bad Beat on Cancer™ (BBoC). Nguyen and Racener made it to the “November Nine,” where they placed second and ninth in the final 2010 event at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. Their combined pledges total over $18,000, which will help further cancer prevention research, education, and nation-wide community outreach.

The World Series of Poker, the world’s most competitive poker tournament, commenced on July 5th with over 7,000 starting players. The final nine played in the Main Event this weekend, battling for the championship title. Thirty-nine year old amateur player Nguyen, the oldest contender at the table, finished the competition last Saturday in ninth place, winning over $800,000. Twenty-four year old Racener battled Jonathan Duhamel for the World Championship on Monday night, taking away over $5 million in second place.

“We are thrilled about John and Soi’s success in the WSOP, and we congratulate them on their expert poker playing skills,” said Jan Bresch, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Foundation. “Because of their pledge to BBoC, it is not only a win for them, but a win for the Foundation and cancer prevention and early detection.”

Since its inception in 2004, the Bad Beat on Cancer™ initiative has raised over $3.2 million to fund the Foundation’s efforts in the areas of cancer research, education and community outreach. Poker pros and amateurs alike have taken the BBoC pledge to donate 1% of their winnings to the Prevent Cancer Foundation. BBoC tournaments have been staged nationwide in New York, Los Angeles and Houston.
