Dorothy’s journey: Couch to Prevent Cancer 5K

Let me give you a little background on myself, I played lacrosse in college, can handle intense cardio workouts and don’t mind the occasional Olympic lift, but for some reason, I gave up long distance running of any kind since it made me feel like I was  on the verge of passing out. But now in my post college life, I am making it a mission to get healthy and couch to 5k (C25K) is my first step.

After extended research I have devised a plan. Most C25K are 9 week programs, we are about 13 weeks out from the 2013 5k Walk/Run on Sunday September 29, 2013. So in preparation for my C25K I will start 3 weeks of walking 3 times a week before the plan starts. My official start date will be July 22, 2013 and I will complete week 9 a week before the 5k.

Couch25K BlogTo make this a committed effort I have decided to bring in a partner, to keep me accountable, his name is Clifford. He will be doing the Pooch to 5k Program while I do the C25K program. This is one of the reasons I chose to do the Prevent Cancer Foundation 2013 5k Walk/Run, not only is it a great course along the Anacostia River Front, you can bring your beloved pet/training partner with you.

Though this process is sure to have its ups and downs I am excited to be taking steps to living a long and healthy life. You can join me on this journey by signing up for my Couch to 5k team. If you have already taken this journey yourself, post some helpful hints in the comment section below.

See you at the finish line! =)
