Thousands of people will come together today in the D.C. metro area to make our community a better place. Powered by United Way of the National Capital Area, Do More 24 is a local movement that encourages community members to donate to the causes and organizations closest to their hearts to solve our region’s most pressing challenges.
It would be difficult to find a cause closer to the hearts of the D.C. metro area than cancer. Cancer is a disease that unfortunately affects everyone. Each year, more than 1.6 million Americans will be diagnosed with cancer, but research shows that up to 60 percent of cancer cases and more than 50 percent of cancer deaths are preventable – and that’s only what we know.
Please donate to Do More 24 to our ¡Celebremos la vida! (Let’s Celebrate Life!) program, which provides breast and cervical cancer screening and education to Latinas in our region who otherwise would not be able to access these services. A related program, Campeonas contra el cáncer de seno (Champions against Breast Cancer) trains Latinas who have been screened for breast cancer to encourage their friends and family members to consider getting screened as well.
Prevent Cancer is a vital part of the Washington D.C. metro region. We fund researchers who work in major research institutions in our region to find innovative ways to prevent cancer or detect it earlier. We have also helped support the GW mammovan, which provides greater access to mammograms for women at work and in communities throughout our region, since its start in the mid-1990s.
Do more for your community today and make a difference. Support Prevent Cancer by donating $24 or more.
