The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence in Britain is tackling a major, but often ignored cause of a wide range of health problems: inactivity. Their solution: swap the car for walking and cycling. Public health officials are challenging government agencies to make walking and cycling more accessible, convenient, fun and beneficial for all ages. This proposal comes amid latest figures showing 6 in 10 men and 7 in 10 women are not reaching the recommended levels of physical activity. Public health officials hope to introduce car-free events, improve the safety and accessibility of routes and encourage walking and cycling in schools and workplaces.
