Dr. Shapiro is Chair of the Department of Humanities at Penn State College of Medicine. As a survivor, he has written about both the patient experience and that of providers in publications such as the New York Times and Academic Medicine and in three award-winning books. Dr. Shapiro has inspired audiences at dozens of functions where his talks have been described as laugh out loud funny and incredibly moving.
