The 19th annual Dialogue for Action® on Cancer Screening & Prevention engaged a diverse and committed audience from 35 states, nine American Indian/Alaska Native tribes and organizations, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa and the countries Tunisia and Nigeria.
This year’s new location breathed fresh life into the annual conference. Dialogue featured expert speakers on topics like big data in public health, social determinants of health, viruses and cancer, current research trends, affordable quality health care post-ACA and developments in imaging for cancer screening.

Participants also enjoyed multiple networking events, including a movie night with a special sneak preview of an in-progress documentary by Tamika Felder, a cervical cancer survivor and advocate and founder of the non-profit Cervivor. Dialogue attendees also took advantage of additional opportunities for engagement through our new mobile app, the networking resource guide and small-group “Conversations” in which participants shared their experience and knowledge with one another.

Now that the conference is over, the real work begins. Participants returned home from Dialogue with concrete strategies to move cancer screening and prevention ahead in their communities or workplaces. In fact, 94 percent of the participants surveyed after the conference plan to implement change or are considering changes in their workplace or community as a direct result of Dialogue. And 7 out of 10 participants plan to reach out to contacts made at the Dialogue for discussion and collaboration on cancer screening and prevention.
