About Bad Beat on Cancer

Posted By pcfadmin On May 5, 2011 @ 7:26 pm In | No Comments

The Bad Beat on Cancer™ initiative was launched during the 2003 World Series of Poker to help fund the cancer prevention research, education and community outreach across the nation of the Prevent Cancer Foundation― by playing poker.

Players were asked to pledge just one percent of their winnings to the Foundation as a tax-deductible donation. That year Bad Beat on Cancer struck gold when Chris Moneymaker made a pledge, then went on to win the series, donating $25,000 to the Foundation.

Since then, hundreds of players have signed onto Team 1% – amateurs and pros alike – such as Brandon Adams, Andy Bloch, Annie Duke, Phil Hellmuth, Jr., Maria Ho, John Juanda, Marcel Luske, Greg Raymer, Eric Seidel, Paul Wasicka, Dennis Phillips and more.

Over the last 8 years Bad Beat on Cancer has raised $3.8 million and has grown to include major tournaments and home & community leagues around the country.

Bad Beat on Cancer has also become recognized as a premiere charity of the poker community with players proudly wearing the green patch.
